Actor Demo Reel FAQs | ILLM
Below are answers to the most common questions actors ask about demo reel production, scene logistics, editing, locations, and collaboration with ILLM — a film and demo reel production company based in Los Angeles.

Do you provide actors to play opposite me?
Yes. We know many actors who have worked in previous ILLM productions and would be happy to collaborate. That said, we always recommend actors work with people they’re comfortable with and have rehearsed with. Looking at our Drama & Comedy Scenes samples can help you choose someone who fits your scene.

Do I own my demo reel scenes?
Absolutely. You own your footage and final edits. You are free to post, share, and distribute your scenes wherever you like. We appreciate word-of-mouth, but credit is never required.
Can I use my own editor for the footage?
Yes. We can provide all recorded raw material, and you may have your own editor work on it. Many actors choose our editing services for consistency and cinematic style, but the choice is yours.
Where in Los Angeles do you shoot?
We shoot throughout the Los Angeles area, including:
-
Hollywood
-
North Hollywood
-
Burbank
-
Studio City
-
Santa Monica
-
Downtown Los Angeles
-
Encino
-
Tarzana
Your scene location can be flexible based on the script and logistics.
Do you provide locations?
We have access to select outdoor locations and can help coordinate indoor settings for your scene. However, we strongly recommend writing scenes that can work within locations you or your scene partner already have access to. With thoughtful writing and framing, most spaces can be adapted effectively on camera.
How long does it take to receive my finished scene?
We typically deliver final edits within approximately 5 business days per scene. Our editing process is designed to give your performance a polished, cinematic look suitable for casting submissions.
Can I shoot a scene longer than one page?
Yes — scenes longer than one page can be filmed. However, this typically involves an additional charge (see Rates & Packages). Most actors find that a one-page scene delivers more than enough powerful footage for your demo reel.
What days do you shoot?
We currently schedule shoots on Saturdays and Sundays.
What is a typical shoot day like?
We typically start around 8:00 AM. Outdoor scenes are scheduled around optimal light — either morning or late afternoon. Because we capture comprehensive coverage on each scene, a one-page scene can take roughly 3 hours to film. If you have several scenes with travel between locations, plan for a full-day shoot.
Do you provide a makeup artist?
No. We do not provide a makeup artist, but you are welcome to bring your own for part or all of the shoot day.
What happens if weather affects an outdoor shoot?
If a scene can be converted to an indoor location and both parties agree, we continue shooting. If weather prevents filming entirely, we may deduct the cost of the scene and reschedule when possible.
Can you create alternate edits focusing on different actors?
Standard pricing includes one final edited version per scene. Alternate versions focusing on a different actor are available for an additional fee.
Do you shoot projects beyond demo reels?
Yes. Many actors we collaborate with on demo reel scenes choose to expand into short film projects, music videos, web series, and other creative works. We are happy to discuss any project on a per-project basis.
